The latest trend in designing a home toilet

The beginning of a new year is usually a time for change - we leave behind a certain stage and with fresh energy we look for various novelties that we can introduce into our lives. Sometimes it's a resolution to quit smoking, sometimes signing up for a gym, and sometimes a desire to change our immediate surroundings. So it's no wonder that with January often comes the season for renovations. But how to arrange a bathroom to make it as modern, aesthetic and in line with the latest trends as possible? Here are the solutions that, according to experts, will be the biggest hits for toilets in 2020.

Not such an obvious color

We have become accustomed to the traditional bathroom colors being white and its shades, but since the beginning of 2019, black has been gaining more and more influence. We wrote about this in one of our previous blog posts, where we pointed out how well this color blends with white sinks or tiles, giving the room depth and elegance, and also mentioned how small dark details have a big impact, such as black soap dispensers and towel holders. Bathroom accessories made in this color significantly enrich the decor of the bathroom and give it a modern and eye-catching appearance.

For the year 2020, further development of this trend is expected - black is no longer just faucets and small toilet accessories, but even entire sinks, bathtubs or toilet bowls. Of course, for contrast, they should be used in bright bathrooms dominated by white, but this color, along with the growing interest in industrial style, is starting to give way to shades of gray. It is these shades that work best in combination with wooden cabinets and black-painted metal hangers and pipes, which, through their exposure, are intended to give the room a more raw character. The advantages of gray colors also include their great diversity, allowing for the introduction of various tile colors or paint while maintaining a fairly consistent tone of the room, as well as the fact that they blend well with greenery. Bathrooms are starting to strive to be relaxation zones, which means that designers are increasingly finding space for plants that help to relax and give the interior a slightly ethereal look.

Bathtub or shower?

The most important function of a home bathroom is, of course, to provide a place for people to wash themselves. Therefore, the first question to answer when arranging this room is whether we will choose to include a bathtub, shower, or if we have enough space to risk having both. And although showers are definitely more popular and currently on trend, not only among them, but also among bathtubs, there are increasingly noticeable new trends that will gain a lot of momentum in 2020, completely transforming the faces of bathrooms created according to the latest fashion. This primarily refers to changes in space planning.

As previously mentioned, the current trend is to design home bathrooms in a way that provides maximum comfort and turns them into relaxation zones resembling small SPA centers. That is why there is a growing departure from built-in, recessed or wall-mounted bathtubs, focusing instead on their freestanding versions, placed in the central part of the room. This not only makes it easier to access the tub and provides better natural lighting, but also better showcases it, significantly influencing the styling of the entire bathroom. The black bathtubs discussed above reign supreme here - as the central element of the equipment, surrounded by plants in pots, scented candles or other accessories and decorations that facilitate relaxation, they allow for transforming a regular room into a stunningly decorated sanctuary, helping to forget about the hardships of the day.

The latest shower cabins also aim to provide household members with a high level of relaxation and comfort. However, the biggest change brought by new trends is moving away from installing a shower tray. Thanks to the elimination of any thresholds and the use of tiles gently sloping towards the drain installed directly in the floor, it is not only easier to maintain a high level of cleanliness in the bathroom, but also significantly increases its accessibility, allowing people with mobility issues and wheelchair users to use the shower independently. This is one of the most important requirements for bathrooms for people with disabilities, which makes these shower cabins not only functional, but also stylish. Thanks to the fact that they are not located on any elevation, they also appear visually smaller, and the wide range of options available on the market allows for a variety of designs.Using bathroom tiles allows for fully utilizing the "reclaimed" floor space and makes it easier to experiment with interior design, keeping in mind that placing some floor tiles on the walls can make the room appear larger.

Stylish and comfortable

A well-designed bathroom is not just a place for washing, it is also a room that offers easy access to all necessary cosmetics for daily care. Therefore, just as important as the fixtures, are all kinds of cabinets, shelves, and dressers used for storing razors, shampoos, towels, and other toiletries. What do we know about them? First and foremost, that in the upcoming year, suspended furniture will gain popularity. The main reasons contributing to this trend are the fact that they make it much easier to maintain a clean floor, and, just like in the case of showers without a tray, they allow for better showcasing of tiles. Additional advantages of wall-mounted cabinets (and sinks, since we're on the subject) include the fact that by installing them in this way, it is extremely easy to control their height, which again has a positive impact on making the bathroom accessible for wheelchair users.

Make yourself at home in the bathroom

Focusing on architectural and design solutions that contribute to increasing the comfort of living in our homes and apartments, we often focus on bedrooms and living rooms and forget about bathrooms, which in fact have a great chance of becoming places that allow us to forget about the hardships of everyday life. By using underfloor heating, introducing plants into the interior, and properly planning the space around the bathtub, we can achieve an effect that guarantees an atmosphere conducive to complete relaxation, which will significantly impact the quality of our lives and improve our well-being. Let's remember that the bathroom is not only a place where basic physiological needs are met - it is also a zone of care and renewal. Therefore, when planning a renovation and arrangement of the toilet, we should treat it as such.
