How often and how should we clean the toilet bowl?
Cleaning the toilet bowl is a taboo topic for many people. Many feel uncomfortable when they have to do this task, as it is not one of the most pleasant duties. The fact is that a dirty toilet is not only a place where a huge amount of microorganisms develop, but also a factor that often negatively affects the host's image in the eyes of others. That is why we would like to present you with basic information to help maintain order and hygiene in the bathroom.
How often should the toilet bowl be washed?
The answer to the question in the title should be simple and sound "as often as possible".
This phrase is correct, but to make it easier, cleaning the toilet can be divided into daily and weekly tasks. Daily cleaning should consist of thoroughly wiping the entire toilet with a toilet brush after each use. It is also important to regularly clean the brush itself. In addition, the area around the toilet should be regularly cleaned, for example with a mop and floor cleaner.
At least once a week, more thorough cleaning should be done. The flush should be cleaned, as it can accumulate dirt. We must also remember to remove any dirt that may collect on the water jets located in the upper part of the toilet bowl.
How to maintain a high level of hygiene in the toilet?
When cleaning, let's take care of our safety!
Before we start any activity related to cleaning our toilet or toilet bowl, we must equip ourselves with household gloves to protect our skin from the effects of detergents. It is very important to pay attention to whether our mouth, nose, and eyes will come into contact with the cleaning agents, as the substances in their composition are often irritating and can cause tissue damage.
If we have provided ourselves with proper protection, we can proceed with cleaning.
We start cleaning the toilet!
We start cleaning from the external part of the toilet bowl. To clean this part of the toilet, we can use a dish sponge soaked in cleaning cream or dishwashing liquid. We thoroughly wipe the surface a few times and finally dry it with a paper towel (we do not flush the used towel, because as we mentioned in one of our previous posts, it dissolves in water much worse than toilet paper and can clog the drain pipe).
The interior of the toilet bowl can also be cleaned using a sponge, or by using a previously cleaned toilet brush. Here, we can use stronger, dedicated detergents that are designed for this type of dirt. When cleaning, it is good to keep your head as far away from the surfaces being cleaned as possible to minimize the risk of contact with the detergent on your face. After hand washing, it is worth using an additional gel or disinfectant liquid, which must be spread over the entire surface of the toilet bowl and left for about 30-45 minutes. After this time, simply flush the water a few times, and finally hang a disinfecting cube on the rim to reduce unpleasant odors from the pipes.
Remember to also clean the toilet bowl and its button, which are home to a huge number of bacteria. The exterior can be cleaned with a gentle detergent and sponge, then wiped with a paper towel. The interior of the toilet bowl should be filled with a bacteria-killing detergent and left for about two hours, then thoroughly scrubbed with a sponge or brush. After cleaning, flush the water inside and refill with fresh water using a hose.
We hope our short guide helped you with one of the unpleasant household chores!
