Hand hygiene in pre schools
Proper hand hygiene in preschools and elementary schools is extremely important for limiting the transmission of infectious diseases among children. During illness, children do not attend preschool, and according to statistics, preschoolers get sick even 6-9 times a year. Such frequent absences make it difficult to develop good habits, plan activities, integrate with peers, and thus acclimate to preschool. It is also worth continuing to teach good habits among younger elementary school children. Moreover, frequent absences of children mean that parents have to take care of them at home, which forces them to take time off work or look for a caregiver.
As you can see, there are many negative consequences of frequent illnesses in preschools. The solution is appropriate prevention, which is to instill in children the habit of washing hands; more precisely, proper hand washing. This way, we won't have to monitor them at every step, which is impossible anyway. Instead, children will wash their hands before each meal and after using the toilet by themselves, which will significantly reduce the risk of illness.
Ella's Handwashing SchoolTM is a collection of educational materials designed for preschool facilities and the youngest elementary school classes. The materials were prepared by the brand Tork, which is part of the Essity company, a world leader in the hygiene industry. The idea behind the project is that it is better to encourage children to proper hand hygiene through play and simple methods rather than constantly checking if they have washed their hands. Habits are difficult to develop, but once established, they become second nature.
Among the materials below, you will find brochures for people working in preschools and schools, which help in teaching children proper hand washing. There are inspirations and tips on how to improve hand hygiene through play and other simple methods. Additionally, we provide an educational booklet that tells the story of the children from Bullerbyn, who learn how to stop the terrible Germ. You can use the materials in electronic form or print them directly from our site.
